Engagement Strategies for Community Builders

6 min readApr 2, 2025

When I hear a client say they want more engagement, I first pause. I then ask them — “What does engagement mean to you?”

As we look to a busy spring, what is your focus for the next quarter? If you are like many, you haven’t even thought about goals. Maybe you don’t even like goals… (I’m with you).

What works is when we know what we want AND how to get there. That’s not always easy.

I’d like to share classic engagement ideas. They aren’t “brand new,” but they work. Sometimes things don’t need to be flashy. Not everyone likes the latest and greatest tech. Going back to analog is the next best thing to do!

Connect your members with live conversations.

The fastest way to grow an online community is through LIVE discourse. In person, or online — the members of any community need to get to know each other. We don’t have time to do endless one-to-one conversations.

This is the season for networking. It’s spring and new initiatives. It’s a great time to get creative with your networking events. Have you hosted a speed networking session? You can make it fun as a “Happy Hour.” Alternatively, offer an opportunity for members to share about their work or company.
